a lifetime of experience…and a passion for storytelling
I’ve spent my life immersed in literature, design and wine. After spending over 25 years directing marketing for the San Francisco-based architecture firm, guiding the firm’s marketing and brand identity, and writing about the firm’s multitude of projects, (a great many of them in hospitality and wine), I struck out on my own in 2017 to pursue my love of storytelling. I now work with design, hospitality and winery clients, large and small, to help them develop and convey their stories. My first book, The New Architecture of Wine, was published by Gibbs Smith Publishing in August 2019. My second book, At Home in the Wine Country — written with co-author Chase Reynolds Ewald and published by Gibbs Smith Books — was released in August 2021.
At Home in the Wine Country — my first partnership with co-author Chase Reynolds Ewald — is an overview of home and retreats in the Napa, Sonoma and Carmel Valley…a look at the design, landscape and sense of place that make the wine country of California such a special place. These are places of great beauty, but more importantly places of comfort that provide their owners with a very personal connection to the land and place. Coming out September 7, 2021 from Gibbs Smith Publishing.
The New Architecture of Wine profiles 25 wineries from throughout California, all designed and built within the last ten years, each of which defines - in its own way - the unique character of California winery architecture as it exists today. Though varied in style, these 25 wineries are authentic expressions of the passions of their winemakers, and represent authentic responses to the history, topography and climate of California.
